Requires QuickTime 6, like a lot of nifty high-quality media fun does
Date: August 28, 2003
Movie plays at 5fps; pictures were taken every 20 seconds.
Tina K. provided the soundtrack.
I'm a very tense person and I was in an especially high-strung mood when I made these cookies. My shoulders are practically touching my ears in some frames. "Relax, Derek! They're not going to bite you."
Up until this little movie was made, I had no idea that my camera lacked a manual white balance control. The camera seems to think that our kitchen is yellow, thanks to the fluorescent lights and the lack of color in our kitchen. The yellow frames you see are a result of that, indicating that no extra color (e.g,. me) had been in the scene for at least five seconds prior to the picture being taken.
I was stubborn enough to fiddle with the camera to triple-check that there was no way of reducing the yellowing effect, which is why I disappear and the camera gets bumped around near the end.
Watch the hands of the clock spin aroundit's fun. Unfortunately, our fluorescent lights get in the way, but you can see it if you save, then open the movie with QuickTime Player and enlarge it.
Yes, I should have changed to white socks before I let the camera loose. I'm embarrassed enough to tell you this, but not embarrassed enough to rotoscope my black socks out of each frame.
I drank five glasses of water during the course of this movie.
Just about everyone who's asked to see this movie has also remarked that I seem to be a little too neat in the kitchen when I bake.
I used a "health-ified" version of the oatmeal cookie recipe I had on hand so the cookies were absolutely bone-dry and miserable if you didn't have something to wash them down with. The movie, on the other hand, got much better reviews.
My mom and dad make brief appearances in the movie. We have enough technology in the house (they're addicted, too) that the sight of a camera and computer at the kitchen table didn't faze anyone. Mom did not know she was being filmed and just about screamed when she found out.
Tina's choice of music couldn't have been better, as the last three "Bom bom bom!" hits in the music line up perfectly with the pictures.
